Been getting this too the last 2 times I've used the tweak. Nothing changed afaik on my system between the times I used it.

hellzerg commented 2 months ago

Well, something must have changed regarding permissions on these keys from Microsoft's end.

richardrasu commented 2 months ago

I've got more clue with various *nix's than windows TBH, but if I can help debug further somehow here, do please let me know

hellzerg commented 2 months ago

I will inform you when I have the time.

Something have changed after all https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/215088-tweaking-question-shellfeedstaskbarviewmode-access-denied.html

hellzerg commented 2 months ago

If you kill the explorer.exe, the tweak can be applied according to https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/s1iomh/news_and_weather_feeds_registry_key_keeps/hw0soe4/?context=3

richardrasu commented 2 months ago

Thanks I'll have a look at that when i get back from work.

richardrasu commented 2 months ago

Sorry for the delay on responding here. I tried killing explorer then running optimizer and selecting the failing option, but I still get the error message as described above. I'm juggling a few other things, but I will try a deeper look this evening.

hellzerg commented 2 months ago

@richardrasu Try applying the option when in safe mode. That should do it.

richardrasu commented 1 month ago

Hi, I can (finally!) confirm that execution in safe mode will allow the option without complaint. Thanks for the pointers on this subject. I'm happy if this is closed, as it's no longer an issue for me, but do shout if youneed furhter test subjects here.
