Hi, @michelleN - did you have other mailing lists in mind? There is one list mentioned here: https://github.com/helm/community/blob/master/communication.md#mailing-lists

We were discussing documenting the list of mailing lists used across the entire helm organization if I'm not mistaken. That way new project maintainers could be added to the right mailing lists and reach out to the maintainers about being added to the lists.

To clarify (all mailing lists use the lists.cncf.io suffix):

Those are the mailing lists I'm subscribed to. There could be others specifically for the chartmuseum and charts project. The project maintainers of those projects may know more.

@bacongobbler from https://github.com/helm/helm-www/pull/1357#issuecomment-1276577646

cncf-helm-maintainers@lists.cncf.io is strictly for use by the Helm Org Maintainers and the CNCF. He should not be added to that mailing list unless he is nominated as a Helm Org Maintainer.

Just making sure, you mean cncf-helm-org-maintainers@lists.cncf.io, right?

One other list to consider here is the cncf-helm-core-maintainers@lists.cncf.io mailing list (the Helm Core Maintainers list). We debated at length in HIP 14 whether Helm triage maintainers should be added to that mailing list, and we decided that access to that mailing list should only be granted to Helm Core Maintainers for security purposes. I would also argue that helm-www project maintainers should not be added to that list unless they are a Helm Core Maintainer, as the project maintainers of helm-www may be technical writers/translators who should not be privy to security issues related to the helm project.

I also brought this up in today's Helm dev meeting. Here is what I'm hearing and seeing:

Does this sound correct?

Just making sure, you mean cncf-helm-org-maintainers@lists.cncf.io, right?

Yes and no. There are two mailing lists: cncf-helm-maintainers (the mailing list the CNCF uses to communicate with the Helm org), and cncf-helm-org-maintainers (a private mailing list for the Helm Org maintainers).

No as in I did mean to mention cncf-helm-maintainers. Yes as in he should not be added to either mailing list.

So to answer this question:

  • in practice, this is used by Helm core (helm/helm) maintainers, right?

No. That is what cncf-helm-core-maintainers is for.

  • the idea was this was for Helm core maintainers, but in practice, it's not actually used (instead cncf-helm-maintainers list is used for this purpose).

I don't understand where this came from. Everything in cncf-helm-maintainers recently has been information about joining the program committee for CNCF conferences. cncf-helm-core-maintainers is where all the main dicussion amongst the core maintainers occur, including all of the condorcet voting for new maintainers.
