The wire protocol has seen more fluctuations/changes wrt the consumer rather than the producer. I can Implement the current spec but wish there was a better way to see how it changed through 8->8.2
fwiw, one of the forks started writing fetch on an old branch. Will implement it with the tests, right after finishing #5

Are you working on implementing the fetch api? Not even the complex consumer behavior, just the kafka fetch protocol.
