Liara Romancing Overwrites Ashley Romance Without Initiating Love Triangle Confrontation #241

Describe the bug Romancing both female love interests in LE1 doesn't result in love triangle confrontation scene. Instead, progressing Liara romance will supersede the Ashley romance regardless of Ashley romance progress.

The love triangle scene was easy to bring about in original ME1, but something changed in LE1 to make a Liara hard-supersede possible. I have not tested if inverse happens with FemShep playthrough.

To Reproduce Romance Liara and Ashley simultaneously. Progressing far enough into Liara romance dialogues (sex conversation I believe) will cancel Ashley romance without a confrontation occurring.

Expected behavior I believe confrontation is intended to occur after second major story planet if romancing both characters. If Liara romance progresses through the sex conversation, Ashley romance should not be automatically cancelled and should result in confrontation after second major story planet, as it was in ME1.

Other Considerations This is changed behavior from ME1, but I cannot believe this would be intentional by Bioware. It makes it very easy for a player to get locked out of an Ashley romance without resolution or explanation as to why that romance just stopped dead. This is what the confrontation scene was for, and now it is very easy for a player to just never see it.

Game file It has been a long time since I modded Mass Effect or touched PCC files. I'm not sure if it is a script, or what governs the flipping of romance states based on dialogue. But if someone knows how the game edits romance states within the save file based off dialogue, they can track down the Liara conversations and see if any of them forcibly place Ashley into the "cancelled romance" state and remove her from the "currently being romanced" state.

This is even more ridiculous since it stacks on top of #16
