Is it possible to reduce the distance of use by adjusting the angle or position of the leds? #2

Hi henning2323, first I wanted to thank you for sharing the code.

Seeing that there was a free code option, I was encouraged and built my weapon following his instructions and adjusting the buttons to my needs.

I got everything to work BUT I have to use from 1.8 Mts away.

I wanted to know if it is possible to reduce this distance by adjusting the position of the emitting LEDs? Currently I have 12 LEDs, 3 on each side.

In his photos I saw that he has them diagonally in the corners

it´s me leds config imagen

This is the cheapest nerf gun I found to mod, imagen

Two buttons on the front, the trigger and I use the top movable carriage to manually reload by shaking hard or swinging it so it hits a limit switch.

Thanks again for the code and I hope you continue to improve it.

Hi Andrés, first of all, thank you for enjoying my project. The 1.8 meters you mentioned match the distance where the LEDs cannot be seen by the camera anymore with your screen size. This is because of its limited viewing angle. Improving the LEDs won't help you with this problem. If you want to get closer to the screen, you need to add some kind of wide angle lense infront of the camera. But such a lense adds distortion to the camera which could mess up the positioning. Maybe I find some time in the next half year to experiment a little with lenses. If so, I'll keep you updated. But feel free to so so on your own, if you want to :)

I have an idea on how it could be possible to bring the distance down by ~40% by adjusting only the LED positions. I will probably have time to look into the viability of that idea within the next month.

@TeamARV do you have pictures of the nerf internal that you can share? Curious about components n fitting.

which LEDs did you use? I cant seem to get above 25 degree angle IR diodes

@akeilox I used 4 arrangements of 3 leds placed on some terminal blocks attached with velcro to the screen imagen

 DC Current(Nominal): 20mA.
 DC Current(Max): 100mA.
 Forward voltage: 1.2V-1.6V.
 Power dissipation: 150mW.
 Radiant intensity: 3.31 mW/sr at 20mA.
 Wavelength: 940nm.
 Viewing angle: 40°.
 Operating temperature: -40°C ~ 85°C.
 Encapsulation: T-1 3/4 (5mm).
 Replacement: LTE5208A.

And connect them like this imagen sorry i did not take pictures of the internal trim but there is good space in this nerf model.

@henning2323 Searching I found other projects where they use a 180° fish eye lens to use closer, I managed to adjust a lens and it worked fine now 1.10m~1.2m is playable.
