For some of my web applications, I noticed that the CPU on the Heroku instance is quite old and slow (Intel AWS M5 instance)

Is it possible to get more modern M6 AMD CPU on the platform? The M6 AMD cpu are much better and cheaper than the Intel M5 CPU.

@diwu1989 we updated the instance types around a year and a half ago, so they shouldn't be too dated: https://blog.heroku.com/faster-dynos-for-all

Changing to AMD-type instance instances is interesting, and we're loosely looking into Graviton-based instances too. At Heroku's scale, even changing from Intel to AMD-based instances is something we'd have to carefully test and consider since subsets of customers may rely on vendor-specific hardware extensions or accelerators (say for video encoding).

Thanks for reminding us to stay on top of instance-upgrades!

The M7G and R7G graviton3 based instances would help out a lot because on Graviton, each vCPU is a real physical core. I've experienced many instances of noisy neighbor where my latency goes up a lot due to not enough CPU in the dyno.
