At the moment, if anything goes wrong the program will just abort with a stack trace. This is good for debugging purposes but some of the exceptions should actually be expected and handled.

Within the pull request #2 some bugs were fixed. Closing this, as the issue text is formulated too general with no concrete bug in mind.
