getting 'object expected error' javascript error in IE8

What steps will reproduce the problem?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
everything works fine, but IE8 complains about an "object expected" error 
even when using swf object in its simplest form

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.2 - IE8 - Vista

Please provide any additional information below.
this is one of those lovely JS errors we get on IE, that it doesn't even 
say where the error is. Well it says line 1 char 1.

Well, it's definitively a bug, I have the same exact problem
it only happens on IE8, not IE7 or any other browsers on the market.

@#2 - Well, no. It is not defnitely a bug. ~9% of the top 1M sites on the web 
use 
SWFObject, so I think we would be seeing a few more complaints if things were 
definitely broken for IE8.

The original poster has errors in the way he has set up his swfobject 
definition, and 
because within his swf as he is trying to call a javascript function which does 
not 
exist on the page.

If you want to post any problem page to the list, as I said originally, then 
(helpful) people on the list can work through your problem. 

Otherwise, your "bug" report will be marked as invalid and ignored.

@aran.rhee: I did my homework before posting this and stripped everything to 
make sure 
none of my own code could be messing up. It does only happen in IE8. IE7, 
firefox and 
chrome do fine. My swf really was calling an unidentified function, but even 
after 
removing it the error persisted. Don't know what errors you're referring to in 
the way 
I've set up my SWFO definition, perhaps you could enlighten me.

I've fixed the errors for this particular case. Wrote my own flash embed 
script, a 
sloppy one just making sure document.getElementById could find the object on 
all 
browsers. Would like to get a fix so I could continue using SWFObject though.

Here is a page which uses the main swf and swfobject.js from your site. It does 
not 
seem to cause an error in IE8 for me:

(it will not load the XML properly as it seems you have some modrewrite and 
relative 
pathing happening on your site)

Can you confirm?
(I am using FP 10,0,32,18 and IE 8.0.6001.18828)
