How to verify leaders who sign up #3

It's going to be tough verifying leaders. Here are some ideas:

Idea 1: Have a sign up form on the site that asks them to provide a secret passphrase. Then create an appointment to meet on global chat. On chat I can ask them for the passphrase to verify that they signed up their clan. Then I can look at the clan to verify that the person is the clan leader.

The downside of this approach is that it is very manual. This might not matter at first though.

Idea 2: Create an iOS app that leaders can download. Because it's an app it would have access to their game center username. They can sign up for this service through the app which verifies their name. Then I would still need to manually check if that person is the leader of the clan they signed up for.

This saves me the step of having to create an appointment with the person but I would still have to check they were the clan leader.

In Clash of Clans, the game allows same clan name, so to verify leader of a clan, you may have to go through many clans of the same name to verify the leader. Will it be a problem for us if the clan names is not unique?

So do we need to verify the leader of the clan to give him the right to create a web page? Can a leader delegate the responsibility of managing the website to a member in his clan?

Perhaps we just let anyone who want to create the website to do it for their clan. We can at a later time remove the website if the person put bogus info on the site. What do you think?

I did not realize clan names are not unique. That really screws things up. URL's for each site will have to be unique and yes verification will be a major hassle.

I'm beginning to think that this might not be feasible as a service for other clans. And I am not willing to put myself in a position where I have to decide if a page is bogus or not.

regarding unique URL, I have a solution for it, I will create a separate issue for it.

You or non of us have to be the one to check on bogus page if we don't want to do it. We just let it be bogus.

If our group of clans become popular, and we want to improve the integrity of our sites, then we can check for bogus at that time and only at our leisure.

As service for other Clans: We can just take our time with that. But it is also very low on priority.

Another thing we can do which we kind of talked about is to make this a generic service. Anyone can sign up with whatever username they want and whatever url they want as long as they are not already taken by someone else. I think this is the way to go. Then it can be used by anyone for any game or purpose.

If we want we can make this service on multiple domains for different games like info-board.com, clash-board.com, or wow-board.com. Then urls could be something like clash-board.com/dragonslayers.
