Possibly a partial duplicate of #5? This issue needs clarification.

To clarify, #5 is about controlling animation speed of the trajectory.

Here I was thinking about: relative and absolute tolerances, but could include duration, step size, and direction.

Checked in some code related to this on a separate branch, missing backward integration if still desired.
