Marketing idea: Simple Bitcoin URI (BIP21) vs Payment Protocol (BIP70) explainer page

As discussed on one of the calls, there doesn't yet seem to be much awareness in the Bitcoin community about what payment protocol is and why one may want to use it. This could be a good opportunity to put together a simple page which explains it a little bit and contains a live demo for the user to try it out side-by-side with standard/simple Bitcoin URIs. This could be done in cooperation with a charity, maybe Sean's Outpost, so that all test payments are simply donated to charity.

I would imagine the site to contain

• infos about the current state of things (i.e. simple BIP21 links)
• infos about payment protocol
• a "try it out yourself" part (see mockup)
• links to Hive OSX and Hive Android
• logos for Hive and Sean's Outpost

I think it would be nice, if simply opening the website already prepares everything for the payment. So the website should probably open a websocket connection, get the necessary payment details and display them and then wait for push notifications about incoming donations.

Tasks:

• prepare content
• write client part
• write backend
• decide on hosting
  • either standalone at somecatchypaymentprotocoldomain.io
  • or paymentprotocol.hivewallet.com or hivewallet.com/paymentprotocol to improve search engine ranking for our domain

When do you plan to have this out? Payment Protocol is also part of the topics I intend to write in one of the blogs for the Hive mind too.

I'm not sure for when we should schedule it. I'd like to work on some other things first and I think this can wait a couple of weeks until payment protocol in Hive OSX is out and has been battle-tested in production for a bit. I would probably tackle the backend and maybe some of the content writing (maybe in coordination with you, Karla) and ask Matt & co. for some help regarding the design. So it also depends on when they can squeeze it into their schedules.

I will ping you guys, once I have something regarding the backend. I wouldn't block anything because of it though, Karla. Feel free to already write about payment protocol and then we follow up with this at some point.

This would be a good thing to launch in collaboration with BitPay; something we should have done before the end of June IMO. @mattatgit @jsuder
