Token prioritization #22

Open ghost opened 10 years ago

ghost commented 10 years ago

In light of #6 not being ready anytime soon (and therefore my dream of wallet makers being removed from the decisionmaking process re: token support), I'd like to start a discussion about which tokens we prioritize. This is largely about hive-js, though I do not think that our overall product line should diverge too much/at all from each other.

I am of the opinion that the three tokens we should consider supporting first are DOGE, DARK and LTC, for fairly obvious reasons, but in that order from the perspective of the ideal communities to take up the cause.

I have linked SPV nodes forks etc here: https://github.com/hivewallet/discussions/wiki/Token-support

PokerKnave commented 10 years ago

Obviously KnaveCoin must be supported as it is the most aesthetically pleasing coin out there and you can play the Altcoin Flyers and Divers without any risk.

nolim1t commented 10 years ago

DOGE or LTC are good

NXT !!

Fatih87SK commented 10 years ago

NXT has a very bright future and is #3 of all coins right now. It will be a win-win situation if NXT got added.

ghost commented 10 years ago

Can we add NXT without running a blockchain server?

ghost commented 10 years ago

Sure, you could connect to a public node that has API access enabled, if that's what you mean.

ervandenbosch commented 10 years ago

Please consider to add Nxt

flamingice commented 10 years ago

NXT would be great. Did a dev (ie wesleyh) contact you, w-hive?

ghost commented 10 years ago

@nicholashh Not yet, but it would be great to have a direct line on some support for this!

psic4t commented 10 years ago

NXT would be totally awesome!

ghost commented 10 years ago

You can message me or simply make a post on http://nxtforum.org with questions regarding the API.

Once you install NRS, you can go to http://localhost:7876/test to see all possible API calls. http://localhost:7876/doc gives you documentation. You can then click on nxt.http to see all the API classes.

ghost commented 10 years ago

It sounds like we need to look at supporting NXT. :-)

Our understanding is that NXT is actually extremely advanced; we want to be clear that if we support it, at least for the time being we would just be supporting send/receive/balance-level functionality for the main token itself.

PokerKnave commented 10 years ago

We could do with some help for Knavecoin which is clean, aesthetically pleasing with great potential.

mackuba commented 10 years ago

How exactly is a cryptocurrency "aesthetically pleasing"?...

PokerKnave commented 10 years ago

aesthetically pleasing in the sense that the equation which is creating the coin also create the coins logo in the physical world. Have a look at the initial interpretation of the coin and how it can develop with time and usage http://www.knavecoin.com/

farl4web commented 10 years ago

Nxt would be great, because it also represents the second generation modern cryptocurrency, such as Hive also represents.

ghost commented 10 years ago

Huh? :-)

pnosker commented 10 years ago

VeriCoin should be supported!

ghost commented 10 years ago

From now on we ask that anyone who posts here also post a link to developer docs, their GitHub and an API that we can use. Cheers!

GeertJohan commented 10 years ago

@w-hive What kind of API do you mean? We're working on a newer guldencoinj (based on latest bitcoinj), which we'll release in a few weeks. Guldencoin github is github.com/nlgcoin Docs: docs.guldencoin.com (work in progress though)

mackuba commented 10 years ago

@GeertJohan to include a new coin in Hive Web, we need an external API (as in: a web service on a server somewhere) to connect to its network, since a JS app in the browser can't make connections to TCP sockets directly.

GeertJohan commented 10 years ago

@jsuder ah I understand. Does this API need to provide wallet functionality (get balance, send coins, etc)? Or just methods to inspect the blockchain, call up transactions, transmit raw transactions, etc?

mackuba commented 10 years ago

The wallet (seed, private keys etc.) is maintained locally, what's needed is things like a way to fetch transactions for a given address, to send a transaction already signed client-side, etc. ( @weilu can provide more specific info)

GeertJohan commented 10 years ago

@jsuder @weilu Nice. Do you have a list of required methods? Or can you point me to an existing API that's being used for this (other coin) that is designed well? We can definitely make this for Guldencoin. Either by forking an existing project, or (if need be) writing it from scratch.

boxxa commented 10 years ago

Pinkcoin would be a perfect fit for this wallet!

weilu commented 10 years ago

@GeertJohan We use http://blockr.io/documentation/api.

We currently are using the following endpoints:

address/info/
address/unspent/
address/txs/
address/unconfirmed/
tx/info
tx/raw
tx/push

Be sure to support batch queries like blockr does.
