Nokair has this really nice little pop-up on their mobile site. Can we have something like this, too? If you start scrolling around it disappears.

Yes can do. https://github.com/h5bp/mobile-boilerplate/wiki/Mobile-Bookmark-Bubble

I suppose we want it for Mobile Safari + others?

In the past I have noticed odd behaviours with apps I've saved to home screen and consequent updates have bugged out my local version. @haustraliaer informs me that this can be dealt with by a cache manifest, so I think we should ensure that this is dealt with before we start encouraging people to do it.

Personally, I'm undecided about including the banner at all. Surely by now the vast majority of iOS users have figured out how/why they would want to add websites to their home screens?

ghost commented 10 years ago

I certainly would not count on that.

haustraliaer commented 10 years ago

I think it would be better handled as a part of the product FAQ website, that way we can do a more detailed "this is how you can add hive to homescreen on a variety of devices" type thing. I don't think it's the kind of thing people need to have shoved in their face with a popup.

I disagree. It only happens once David. Once the cookie is dropped they never see it again. I found it very nice when I saw it on Nok's mobile site.

haustraliaer commented 10 years ago

Fair enough - I'm happy to do it that way if you feel strongly about it, my opinion on it is probably quite personally skewed against all popups being evil.

jenbennings commented 10 years ago

If an iOS device is detected (same criteria for us to display the "Add to Home Screen" prompt), we should provide them with an App Store link instead.

haustraliaer commented 10 years ago

Perhaps after the loading screen (underneath auth views)? Rather than inside the app itself.

ghost commented 10 years ago

I will not be forced to download the iOS app, right? I will still be able to use Hive Web?

jenbennings commented 10 years ago

Of course.
