I'm looking into finding a Gantt Timeline Template that we can use for the project and starting that up. I'll also set up the budget page

Start with Greg's outline here http://../wiki/proposal and from what Nosenchuck told us today
I think 1-2 people should write a draft on that wiki page and then others should edit it. Who wants to start?

-- Greg --
Here's a link to my rough estimate timeline, we can go over it sometime before the proposal if people have issues. You should also be able to edit it if you login with your princeton email... Maybe
Can someone write a draft of the proposal today so we can edit it tomorrow? Tom, Brendan? Hayk and Chris, can you post costs of the electronics that we'll need so I can put it into a budget? Round up...
Probably wouldn't be able to start it today because I'm at the gym now and got work at 230 til 9/930. Could start it/edit tomorrow though. Also if we wanna use LaTeK I can do the formatting

Brendan and I took the proposal in to Professor Nosenchuck this morning and got his signature. He suggested going a little deeper into the details surrounding energy efficiency/recovery but he signed it anyway because he won't be around tomorrow afternoon after our meeting with Professor Holmes.
Proposals
Your proposal is due by the end of the second or third week of the term. It must be
signed by your advisor before being submitted or your advisor must send their approval
via email to Prof. Martinelli and Jo Ann Love. The proposal should be a short, one or twopage work plan explaining the objectives of your project and how you plan to accomplish
them by the end of the term. It must be sufficiently detailed to allow myself and the
undergraduate committee to determine whether the project is adequate in scope and content.
The proposal should include the title of your project, your name and class, the course
name and number, and the date. It is particularly important that you indicate if you are
enrolled in the one term independent work courses or whether you are planning a full year
project. It should also specify the advisor for your project. We will assign second readers
toward the end of the term. Note that it is allowable to have advisors outside the Department
as long as your proposal shows adequate mechanical or aerospace content to your project. In
that event, your reader must be an MAE faculty member.
The body of the proposal should clearly and concisely describe your project. Be
specific about the scope of the proposed work, how you expect it to fit within the time
constraints, and what the objectives of the project are. Try to limit the amount of background
material to only what you feel is necessary. If you expect to be making any purchases, please
include your best estimate at a budget. A schedule of meetings with your advisor would also
be worthwhile.
@PayneTrain if you're not too lovestruck can you give it a read through and edit
Yes, I will have it done by ~2 tonight

My suggestions:
Bottom of 1st paragraph change to "...the RHex is highly versatile yet at the same time simple enough to require only one degree of freedom per leg."
Bottom 2nd paragraph, Strike the sentence "This backbone will allow our robot ....unstable terrain." Replace last sentence with "Our goal is to design and build a RHex-like hexapod that utilizes a passive backbone to achieve increased stability and energy retention over irregular terrain."
Bottom 3rd paragraph, last sentence, "...a theme we will advance further with our passive backbone structure."
Middle of 4th Paragraph, "We will use a wireless router to enable our team to login remotely to the on-board Linux CPU, allowing us to update the Arduino closed-loop settings from a base station. This connection will also allow for the initiation of various autonomous controls and yield real-time access the hexapod's camera feed."
Middle of last paragraph. Additionally, Chris Payne will meet with Professor Houck (ELE) on a weekly basis to discuss primarily electronics based challenges.

Done
Ok Brendan, I think the text on the Proposal page can be our final version. Tom scanned the sigs and I made the background white, so stick those in as well.
Also, I think "Project management tools" needs to be added to the budget, since I'm paying 7$ a month for this Github repo and Greg is paying something for Gantto. Around 80$ total should be accurate for the year I think.
though maybe just skip the project management in the budget since it doesn't fit into mechanical/electrical parts?
