the fix has been already implemented. With soul 2023-02-18 v3.0 the example in the question works fine.
Sorry, I just read the comments in the other thread where you already said that there has been an update. I just updated my local installation and can confirm that it works fine. I close this issue then.
As has been shown in a Q&A on TeX.SX, the
soul
package is not compatible with thexcolor
packge, because both use the same macro (\dimen@
) to temporarily store different values and thesoul
package needs the stored value after thexcolor
package has already redefined the value inbetween.The above link also provides a workaround for this problem: The problem can be easily solved by changing the name of the macro
\dimen@
to something else (for example\SOUL@dimen
).
