Editable Bookmark Title and Optional Description #587

Describe the feature you'd like

Introduce a feature that allows users to edit the title of a bookmark and add an optional description. This could be accessed through an "Edit" option in the context menu or directly on the bookmark card. The description field would provide additional context for each bookmark, helping users organize and recall why they saved a particular item.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing Hoarder users

Allowing users to edit titles and add descriptions would improve the organization of bookmarks, making it easier for users to find and manage their saved content. This feature aligns with the behavior seen in other bookmarking services and caters to those who need more descriptive and searchable collections.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

No. Currently, there isn't a direct way to edit titles or add descriptions, so this feature would be a new addition to Hoarder's functionality.

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

You can already edit the title from the bookmark preview page, and you can add "notes" to act as a description?

I guess it's not that clear that you have to "expand" the bookmark to edit it. Maybe changing expand icon to edit icon could help?

binuengoor commented 4 weeks ago

@MohamedBassem I hadn't noticed that icon until now. While the expand button is convenient for text-based content like notes, it doesn't seem intuitive or useful for simple bookmarks. For bookmarks, it would be more logical to have this option under the three-dot menu. Additionally, any description entered should be displayed on the card, which is not happening currently.
