Buttons backlight times out after setting brightness, when it did not time out before #23

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start the app
2. Set brightness to "dim"

Expected Results:
Capacitive buttons backlight sets to dim, and remains turned on as long as the 
screen is turned on.

Actual Results:
Capacitive buttons backlight sets to dim (as expected), but then it turns out 
after a few seconds, even when the screen is still turned on.

This has been reported at least twice so far against v1.0.8, including by xda 
user ECEXCURSION, who helpfully provided the "debug information":
