It is only possible to close the application pane by clicking the application button. While this aligns well with opening and closing things like the rooms, dms, and notificaitons frames/dialogs, for an element that claims the full screen, my expectation is to be able to override it with other full frame elements. Specifically, I would expect that if I clicked an application icon in the "dock" for some arbitary application that is already running that said app would pop up and the application menu itself would close into the background.
