@simontegg reason for closing?
This is phrased as a solution. I feel it should be as a problem then have designs/mockups attached.
i propose we add the ability to view textual labels of relationships by hovering over them.
mockup:
What's the rationale behind full sentences compared to shorter link descriptions? In the mockup the text "Mikey" is black and partially hovering over a black background (Hannah)?
full sentences are more translate-able, based on feedback from @mixmix.
my mockup is for a very basic implementation, it certainly has flaws but i reckon it's still an applicable solution to the problem, i'm keen for any further ideas or improvements.
I think shorter links descriptions are still meaningful in the context of our visual representation for the vast majority of languages. Japanese is SOV but this still makes sense (in my rusty Japanese sense)
It may not work for OSV OVS and VOS word order, but these are only 4% of the world's languages (and a even smaller proportion of speakers and internet users) The vast majority of the world's languages place the Subject before the Object which matches the visual representation of Link -> here.

background color on this element?
from a real metamap, an example of this in action.
this brings up the design question of how best to view symmetric relationships.
