module 'geoviews' has no attribute 'extension'

I installed geoviews using the following command on both Anaconda 2.7 and 3.6:

$ conda install -c pyviz geoviews

I ran the following code on Jupyter, but I got an error as show on below:

import geoviews as gv
import geoviews.feature as gf
import xarray as xr
from cartopy import crs

gv.extension('bokeh', 'matplotlib')

Error:

Sorry you're having trouble! A little more info would help to figure out what the problem might be. Could you supply the following?

output of conda info
output of conda list
after running your code example above - i.e. from within your jupyter session - please then run the following two commands and report the output of each: gv.__version__ and gv.__file__

The current version of GeoViews is 1.5.1, but from that message it seems like you're getting 1.4.3 or earlier, because gv.extension() was added in 1.5.0. Installing from the pyviz channel should have given you 1.5.1, but it doesn't seem to have, so somehow you'll need to convince conda to install 1.5.1. You could try demanding that version explicitly using conda install -c pyviz geoviews=1.5.1, and if that doesn't work, maybe the error message will make it clear what the trouble is. E.g. maybe you have installed it multiple times, and you're getting an older version despite having the newer one installed somewhere?

@ceball, looks like this is Windows; maybe the set of packages on Windows differs and leads conda to choose an old version to satisfy some other constraint? Odd.
