Carnets Jupiter app for iPad #134

Open nevilator opened 3 years ago

nevilator commented 3 years ago

Since your last upgrade this app crashes while trying to open on my iPad Air 2 (iOS 14.2). A white blank screen appears showing the time, date in top LH corner and wifi and battery charge indicators in top RH corner, all in very small type. After about 6 seconds the app crashes and returns to the main iPad Home Screen with a popup request to allow Carnets notifications. I have used previous issues of this app successfully on numerous occasions using files stored both in iCloud Drive and on my iPad. Several times I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling from Applestore without success.

It is a great app and I hope you can identify the problem.

Thank your for this report. I am terribly sorry it crashes, and taking this with highest priority. Is that with version 1.5.0 or 1.5.1?

nevilator commented 3 years ago

I'm pretty sure that it was v 1.5.1. However, this morning I deleted the app again and downloaded v 1.5.1 from Applestore. The same problem persists when opening, i.e. a white blank screen displaying only status indicators for time, date, wifi and battery charge at the top, which lasts for about 6 seconds and then crashes, returning to the iPad Home Screen. Thanks for your concern and response.

I have no idea what is happening; I hope your crash report will show up in the console and give me more clues. I may have fixed it in v. 1.5.2, but if so that is purely by chance.

I have maybe one experiment to suggest: Carnets is probably trying to reopen the last file you opened. If you remember what it was, can you move it to a different place?

Hi, I managed to reproduce the issue in the simulator. A new build is now available on TestFlight, which should fix the issue: https://testflight.apple.com/join/yevwlUs1

Deleted all files in Files>On My iPad>Carnets and all .ipynb files On My iPad and iCloudDrive. Deleted Carnets folder. Deleted Carnets-Jupiter App and re-installed v1.5.2 from App Store. Checked settings after download - iPad storage 26.6 GB of 128 GB used, Carnets-Jupiter App size 781.3 MB with Documents & Data 49KB. (Note that total size is less than stated by App Store i.e. 827.3MB) Ran App and app crashed as previously described I.e. from white screen to iPad Home Screen after selection is made in Carnets “Would like to send you notifications” Notification. As on all previous occasions I have selected to share crash data and analysis data with the app developer. Below is an extract from Analytics concerning a Termination Reason. You should have access to the full log. If not, I could email it.

It's a link-based TestFlight. You just need to click on that link. I can e-mail the link, but I would need your e-mail address. Can you send an e-mail to carnets_jupyter@icloud.com?

Running version 1.5.4 on TestFlight and it appears to be functioning properly.

Thanks again and my best wishes for Xmas
