iPad magic keyboard doesn’t work after upgrading to iPad OS 15 #198

Closed Conansoloman closed 2 years ago

Conansoloman commented 3 years ago

The “return” key of the magic keyboard doesn’t work for Carnets Jupiter (with Scipy) after upgrading to iPad OS 15. The “return” key on the virtual keyboard still works.

holzschu commented 3 years ago

Thank you for (sadly) confirming this. I submitted a build to Apple with the fix on July 5th. It has been stuck in "(Processing)" since then, as have all the other builds I have submitted. I have been escalating this with Apple Developer Support, but they aren't helpful.

MaxPelly commented 3 years ago

still no movement on this? had to switch to juno for the moment but their packages are blooming ancient

kkebo commented 3 years ago

Current workaround is to use Juno Connect to connect to Carnets' Jupyter Notebook Server.

  1. Add http://localhost:8888 to Juno Connect
    • 780E99D9-0BAB-49D6-8B25-34BF2E4E93B4
  2. Copy the token of Carnets by !cat ../Library/Jupyter/runtime/nbserver-4192.json and use it to login on Juno Connect
  3. Check the home directory of Carnets by !pwd
  4. Paste it after http://localhost:8888/tree/ on Juno Connect so that it is like http://localhost:8888/tree/private/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/..../Documents

Latest TestFlight beta (1.6.0 (167)) from this morning fixes this issue for me, carriage return works with my bluetooth Apple Magic Keyboard again.

TarickWake commented 2 years ago

Hello,

In main version of ios 15, I have the same issue with an other bluetooth keyboard. the logitech k380

I will test in beta version.

PS: Merci pour l'App, un vrai bonheur !

holzschu commented 2 years ago

The issue was affecting all external keyboards. It should be fixed with version 1.6.0. Currently, there are no differences between the TestFlight version of Carnets and the AppStore version.

Carnets-with-scipy is still stuck on version 1.5.8, and still has this problem (both in AppStore and TestFlight version).

Peter230655 commented 2 years ago

The external key board works fine with Carnets, but not yet with Carnets PLus. :-(( I tried the Apple external key board - same problem with Carnets PLus. I hope you will be able to fix it soon - Carnets Plus is such a GREAT app for me! Thanks"

S-Ha commented 2 years ago

Today I find a new TestFlight vesrsion of Carnets with Scipy, 1.6.1. My Magic Keyboard for iPad works fine now ! Thanks.

Peter230655 commented 2 years ago

GREAT !!! While I have TestFlight, I am not listed there as your BETA tester, hence I do not see Carnets Plus on my TestFlight. I think, that you, as the owner of Carnets / Carnets Plus must add me to your list of BETA testers. Only then will I be able to get it on TestFlight.

Thanks!

Stupid question: iOS15 keeps on bringing new updates. Is there a chance that these updates mess up the return key again?

As I said, it is working fine now, and I do not want to mess it up again.

Short answer: I don't think so. What these updates might do is fix the problem with the return key a second time (it seems like a bug on their part), making it work for old versions of Carnets plus new versions of iOS.

Long-ish answer: the problem with this specific bug was not finding the solution (it litterally was just recompiling with the new SDK), but the fact that the new builds were not accepted without explanation. It took a few months to reverse-engineer the behaviour of Apple's servers and create a version of Carnets that is compatible with the new (unwritten) requirements. Now that I have it, I should be good... until the next change on the server side.

Peter230655 commented 2 years ago

Thanks for your clear reply!

Just a very small point I noticed: If you select a folder and ‚delete‘ it, it deletes it immediately. Most apps ask something like: do you really want to delete xxx? Of course your approach may be right: think before you act!

I don't know how to ask for confirmation before deleting a folder, but iOS does not delete files or folders immediately. It places them into "Recently Deleted", and you can undelete them from here.

It's a bit counter-intuitive, but you need to use the File menu. In there, you have the option "Download as", and you can chose Python as an option. The cell formatting will be preserved as comments, and the content of the cells will be exported as Python code.

Dear Nicolas,

I have been playing around with networkx on and off, and came across a very strange issue: If I run the program below on your Carnets app, it draws the expected graph. If I run it with your Carnets Plus, it gives a „blob“. Before you corrected this „return key“ issue on Carnets Plus, it worked fine with Carnets Plus, too.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Indeed. That is extremely odd. The difference between Carnets and Carnets Plus here is that on Carnets, you have any version of NetworkX ("!pip show networkx" will tell us more), while on Carnets Plus, it is the latest version (2.6.2 at least), installed at the app level.

On a recent version of Carnets, with a newly installed networkx (2.6.2 and 2.6.3), I get the same behaviour (a blob). Looking closely, it seems that networkx has generated random positions, as expected, but the autoscale in matplotlib does not scale the figure to make it visible. It's very strange.

holzschu commented 2 years ago

Note for myself: this seems to be connected to https://github.com/networkx/networkx/issues/5167 I need to check.

Peter230655 commented 2 years ago

Dear Nicolas,

I have networkx 2.6.3 on Carnet Plus and on Carnet. (I thought, that maybe I had messed up networkx, so I de-installed it and re-installed it. I did this with Carnet Plus, but somehow Carnet also ‚got‘ this version, or Carnet already had it, or… I did not check , which versions I had before this de/re - installing)

When I draw a graph without edges, it works fine on Carnet Plus. This seems to support your analysis, if I understood you correctly.

Hi Peter, Carnets is a very big app, so preparing a new version takes time. This issue will be fixed with the next version of networkx (2.7), but that version is not available yet.

One possibility if you need a fix right now is for you to install the current (experimental) version of networkx.

I think this will work, but I haven't tested it.

Dear Nicolas,

Not only very big, but also VERY GOOD!! I did not mean to push you, and I certainly do not need it quickly. I just played around with networkx the last few days, and I noticed this again. I use python only to keep my old brain busy, so nothing is very urgent with me.

Thanks & take care!

Peter

  • clone the repository using WorkingCopy or a-Shell: https://github.com/networkx/networkx
  • in Carnets, navigate to that repository, create a new notebook there.
  • in that notebook, run !python setup.py install

I think this will work, but I haven't tested it.

Hi, regarding networkx, I've found a quick and dirty fix. It is available on TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/UbNIjkjp

Peter230655 commented 2 years ago

Dear Nicolas, I just downloaded it. Seems to work perfect!

Thanks a lot! Peter

Dear Nicolas,

I use sdeint, a program to integrate stochastic differential equations. I use version 0.2.2, but now a new version 0.2.4 is available. I just typed

%pip install sdeint

It did ‚something‘, but when I checked the version, it was still 0.2.2

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks! Peter

Dear Nicolas,

I tried to install the sdeint library on Carnets, where I did not have it, yet. Installation worked fine, but when I tried to start it, I got the error as per the picture attached. I have no idea, whether this is related to your app, or to this sdeint library. I hope, you can help me.

Thanks a lot, Peter

About the sdeint install, when it's already installed I think you need %pip install --upgrade sdeint to tell pip that you really want the latest version.

When it's not installed yet, I cannot see the error message (the attached image did not go through).

Peter230655 commented 2 years ago

Dear Nicolas,

I attached the picture again, and also a PDF file of the picture. I hope, you can see it now. Thanks for all your help!
