Failed to connect to new SMLight SLZB-07 USB Adaptor

The problem

I am a new user of Home Assistant and have installed HomeAssistant in a Proxmox VM which has been working well for a little while. I have added a SMLight SLZB-07 USB adaptor to expriement with Zigbee based sensors. The USB device has been passed through ProxMox to the VM and HA sees the device as /dev/ttyUSB0. I am trying to add the ZHA integration sing this device but the devices 'Fails to Connect'
