alarm_control_panel entities through HomeKit Device integration experiencing alarm code issues

The problem

Without a "default code" attached to the alarm_control_panel entity, Home Assistant throws an error when attempting to change the arming status: Failed to perform the action alarm_control_panel/alarm_arm_home. Validation error: Arming requires a code but none was given for alarm_control_panel.alarm
With a "default code", Home Assistant can change the arming status, but doesn't ever prompt for a code or display a keypad.

This feels like a bug:

a default code shouldn't be necessary to change alarm state
if a default code is defined, users should be prompted for the code when disarming the alarm
