media_player documentation media_player source (message by IssueLinks)
Hey there @home-assistant/core, mind taking a look at this issue as it has been labeled with an integration (media_player
) you are listed as a code owner for? Thanks!
(message by CodeOwnersMention)
These are separate issues. Each integration needs to add a timeout.
sorry Paulus, I had missed your reply completely. how should this be taken forward, is there enough info for the code-owners?
not sure I understand if 'each integration needs a timeout' is for me to act upon?
I had this error 909 times in 2 hours today from my webOS LG tv media player
@balloob where can a timeout be added? is that a integration developer thing, or user configurable?
cheers
Since updating to HA 2022.6.5 my Onkyo AV Receiver does not work anymore. Same message in the log, complaining about this timeout. I need a fix.
Getting constant messages in my logs about
Updating mpd media_player took longer than the scheduled update interval 0:00:10
Yes, I am now getting this with 2022.6.5 with my Bose Soundtouch 20. Considering the spread of media players involved I would think it is not integration specific?
There hasn't been any activity on this issue recently. Due to the high number of incoming GitHub notifications, we have to clean some of the old issues, as many of them have already been resolved with the latest updates. Please make sure to update to the latest Home Assistant version and check if that solves the issue. Let us know if that works for you by adding a comment 👍 This issue has now been marked as stale and will be closed if no further activity occurs. Thank you for your contributions.
I still have the problem with two linkplay speakers. They both work but this warning is a nuisance.

This been dragging for 2 years. I was not what it is expecting from MPD especially it is working fine.
Just a refresh of this, and hopefully someone can pick this up. I only saw the massive logging of this since the 2023.6.x release. Note, this is NOT the timing warning when you restart your system, since that will log only once, potentially, at a reboot/restart, and will log something like this, and mostly shows only one entry: _Setup of mediaplayer platform xxx is taking over 10 seconds.
These are live systems loggings. If it requires each integration to implement some timer changes, so be it. Let us know, and we all revert back to the individual integrations we use. In my case the Bose Soundtouch integration. Funny enough, I do not have this issue with my LG WebOSTV integration.

Same issue here on HA 2024.3.0 with 2 Denon AVRs through the media player integration. My logged are filled with thousands lines of these. To me it happens when the Denon are physically turned off completely by a zwave plug. I would understand the trial to connect to powered off devices fails but it should not fill the logs like that. or at least we could make it a "INFO" log entry instead of Warning
is there a place where the source code of 'homeassistant.components.denonavr.media_player' or 'homeassistant.components.media_player' is visible ?

The problem
making this more generic than https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/57633
where I issued that on Mpd player alone. That hasn't received any attention, and now the log is reporting it on more media_players a new issue seems relevant.
these media_players are off most of the time, so no need to spam the log with these warnings.
