Kodi Media Artwork not displaying in browsers or is displaying incorrect artwork #84963

The problem

I've had many challenges getting artwork to display in the kodi integration. I first started out not seeing any artwork or thumbnails at all after adding my host and trying to view artwork in the "Media" section that displays after a host is added. I found out after switching browsers that the issue exists because of the browser i am using. I use Vivaldi as my daily driver. I was able to see some artwork after switching to firefox. How can this work in Vivaldi?

As i mentioned before, After switching my browser to firefox i was was able to see some artwork, artists and albums appear to be mostly fine, but TVshows and Movies are wrong. Based on what i see in the TVshows section, it appears that the integration is trying to display fanart....these should be trying to display either "Posters" or "Thumbs". A fanart is a background image and will never display properly in the sizing of a grid entry that is in Home assistant. Also, in the artist section of music I don't see a way to alphabetize the artists...it seems they are all listed but there's no rhyme or reason to the list. See screenshots below.

Vivaldi browser results music 2022-12-11 12_54_31-Media – Home Assistant - Vivaldi Vivaldi browser results movies 2022-12-11 12_54_35-Media – Home Assistant - Vivaldi Firefox browser music - no issue with displaying, only sorting order 2022-12-11 12_54_39-Media – Home Assistant — Mozilla Firefox Firefox browser movies - I assume fanart is attempting to be displayed here, but can't, there should be 'posters' displayed 2022-12-11 12_54_51-Media – Home Assistant — Mozilla Firefox Firefox browser tvshows - 'thumb's are displaying here (when available), it should be 'posters' 2022-12-11 12_54_58-Media – Home Assistant — Mozilla Firefox

If you're going to display fanart anywhere on this platform, It should be behind the artist title and play button when drilling into the artist menu 2022-12-11 13_28_43-

Hey there @onfreund, @cgtobi, mind taking a look at this issue as it has been labeled with an integration (kodi) you are listed as a code owner for? Thanks!

Code owner commands Code owners of `kodi` can trigger bot actions by commenting: - `@home-assistant close` Closes the issue. - `@home-assistant rename Awesome new title` Change the title of the issue. - `@home-assistant reopen` Reopen the issue. - `@home-assistant unassign kodi` Removes the current integration label and assignees on the issue, add the integration domain after the command.

Hi

I have the exact same issue. Really thought there was something in my config before i found this thread.

I just get a Status Code: 500 (from service worker) when it tries to get the poster.

@Shredder5262 Regarding the thumbs, if you go into Kodi settings, library, videos and disable extract thumbnails from videofiles . You wont atleast get the ugly thumbs from the video (then nothing will appear if you dont have local downloaded thumbs). You will need to clear the cached thumbnails and rescan library to refresh it.

  • Kodi 18.9 is the last version it was working on, tested on Matrix 19.5 and Nexus 20.0 with out any luck
  • Happens whatever i use normal videolibrary or via plexkodiconnect.
  • Tested both with local art and with online art, same issue.
  • Happens in both Edge and Chrome

not at all, I gave up. I believe that the dev abandoned this integration and only responds to break fixes. If you 'demand' that these guys fix things they remind you that they're doing it for free so you get what you get and don't throw a fit... Unfortunately I'm stuck unless someone picks this up with the knowledge to fix it.
Thanks for the tip at least. My kodi setup is pretty customized and I'm hesitant about making any full library changes for this, but it might be useful for someone else. The best i can suggest is to use Yatse as an alternative (though it sucks having to switch apps, it's far superior to what this integration is in it's current state in terms of media browsing) Also note, The plex integration pulls in images flawlessly, so the issue is specific to this integration. It needs to be fixed.
