home-sweet-gnome / dash-to-panel

An icon taskbar for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash into the gnome main panel so that the application launchers and system tray are combined into a single panel, similar to that found in KDE Plasma and Windows 7+. A separate dock is no longer needed for easy access to running and favorited applications.

Enhance status and tray icons customization (for left/right panel) #1126

Describe the idea or feature you'd like I use panel on the left, because nowadays with wide displays its the best position to save space. When I put the panel to the left the tray and status area icons are very inconveniently displayed. To have them most compact and the panel to be distraction free, It would be great (sorted from the most important): 1) to be able to choose to display the status and tray icons in two columns instead of one. This is probably the most important thing for people that have notebook, because the icons and indicators take half the panel. 2) to be able to see date and time in two rows - right now the date just overflows and I can only see something like "9th Au." and I do not see time. So I had to hide date and show only time. 3) to be able to set margin for the tray and status icons - right now I can only set padding but it is shrinking/flattening the icons of programs like keepass or ksnap that I want to keep in tray not in taskbar. 4) to be able to hide status indicators behind one common icon. Right now, there is microphone, user, sound, wifi and other indicators that I don't need to see, especially when I know that I will see them when I click it. Or to be able which status icons do I really want to see. Right now I must supply this with Panel Indicators extension which is sometime in collision with Dash to Panel. 5) to be able to choose which icons I want to display - this can be done with Icon Hider extension but it collides with Dash to Panel and Panel Indicators and thus work very inconsistently. 6) hide dropdown arrows - okay this is something Remove Dropdown Arrows does well, but it might as well be added too to make it easier to setup everything.

Please see screenshots - one shows only Dash to Panel default in left, the second shows how it looks with all the other extensions - it looks already quite well, but the extensions collide and doesn't work consistently this way.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Too many icons in status area and tray, useless space around them *can be in two columns", Can't display date because it would make mess...
