Feature request: Ability to set custom name or field and retrieve via API #101

It would be helpful to have an ability to set a custom name/field via the API. The use case would be to find the meter location or site name via the API. Currently, our server application would have to keep a configuration table with serial numbers and associated names, and use the API to access the serial number and then look up the associated name. Not critical, but this matches a capability of another energy monitoring device we have.

Hi! Great idea but maybe a bit to specific for the general public.

I recommend you to contact us directly via sales@homewizard.com (you can mention this conversation) so we can discuss your needs. Maybe we can share ideas and see how we can help.

Thanks for the quick response. We can work around this without this feature.

We are still open for discussion. I'm curious how you use the products and API, can you tell us more?

I have developed an energy monitoring application for power and gas meter readings collection for a lodge with about 100 accommodations, each of which currently has an Eastron SDM-230 Modbus meter and a gas meter. The app currently reads the HomeWizard API periodically and updates a local database with readings and provides on-demand or weekly reports for the rooms to be used in billing and monitoring. It also provides alerts for missing readings so local IT staff can correct any issues quickly. A trial of a couple of units is being installed this summer with the customer deciding on the rollout after seeing how well this works. We like the HomeWizard cloud data collection for a backup of the readings and local device configuration through the app.

That is really cool!

I absolutely recommend you to contact us directly via the sales@homewizard.com, just to have a quick chat about sharing ideas.
