Can deriveAll work with type synonyms?

As far as I know deriveAll does work correctly for type synonyms, in as much as 
it
ignores them; type synonyms can't have their own instances, the instances for 
the
type they are a synonym of get used.

If you think it isn't working properly, please reopen, including an example and
saying what you expected to happen.
