@kahlil (of JSConf EU opening performance fame) is offering to host a Hoodie Podcast. He just needs some input from us:

Original, repasted:

HoodiePod 🎧

As discussed with Gregor at Relax.js I have a proposition for a weekly Hoodie podcast.

Here is what I am thinking:

Make a 10, 20 up to 30min max weekly podcast with the purpose of

  1. Keeping the community up to date with what is going on in the Hoodieverse and
  2. Growing the community of contributors and users

    Possible Topics

Given the goals mentioned above I would propose the following topics.

2 or more Hoodie team members (who enjoy podcasting) get into a Skype call with me once a week. All they have to do is get a decent mic or headset, show up and talk. The call could go 10 to 30 min.

What I Can Offer

I can offer to record the call, maybe guide through the show, do some light post-production and upload the audio somewhere.

Hosting

Podcast Hosting should be done on the Hoodie blog. There should be show notes with a short summary of the episode and any links to things mentioned.

Scheduling

I still have to clear this up but I think I could be doing this once a week during the day in my lunch break for instance. That would mean around 12/1/2pm Central European Time.

I might also be able to do it later in the day if required.

Let me know what you think!

I was thinking and wanted to add the following:

if you want to do a longer podcast or want to record in the evenings which I could not do, I am also very happy to coach somebody on how to record and post-produce a podcast recording time-efficiently with just a Skype call recorder and Garageband.

It would be good to have more than one person with that capability anyway.

100000000 times yes. If we do this, can we get some links to some good headsets/mics so we can make sure we are equipped? :)

I'm not sure if there would be enough for something once a week, it seems like we'd make a good go of it in the beginning because we're all excited, but we might slow down. Maybe once every 2-4 weeks so we can actually stretch out the content?

kahlil commented 9 years ago

Oh yes of course I think these two links are quite good and offer a lot of options:

garrensmith commented 9 years ago

+1 I think that is a great idea. Could we also add some PouchDB and CouchDB news in as well since they are all related to some degree?

gr2m commented 9 years ago

I love the idea, thank you very much @kahlil for offering to host it!

I think it would make sense to have one (or more?) co-hosts from the Hoodie community, who takes ownership of the podcast content- and timing-wise?

I'd be happy to do that myself, but as I'm so much involved into Hoodie already, I'd prefer to support someone else who would be interested in doing it

I'm very excited for the possibility of a Hoodie Podcast! I think an awesome way to kick off the 1.0 release and announce this new podcast could be by collaborating with the folks at JSJabber for the first episode. In that episode, we can talk about the state of Hoodie and how we're fostering the community through many ways to contribute & keep up to date through mediums like the blogs and HoodiePod.

I would love to be involved. I created a podcast with my friend just for fun and I've also produced/organized/hosted similar video type things for my last company.

nolanlawson commented 8 years ago

Count me in. :) My Hoodie knowledge is a bit lacking, but I could definitely talk about PouchDB for hours, or until you cut off my mike. ;)

OK friends it looks like something is coming together. So far I am seeing a podcasting crew consisting of:

Core Podcasting Crew

Popping In Every Now & Then

This is great! But a few notes from my side:

Since the core crew already has members from US time zones I think it would be difficult to to do the podcast mid day CET. Also I think that the scope of the podcast has grown.

So I think the podcast has grown out of the original proposed 10-30min length into a classical 45-60min length podcast to fit everything comfortably. That is actually a perfect length and I personally think that would be better than trying to keep it so short.

It most likely means that it will have to be recorded in the evening CET to fit all the time zones comfortably which takes me out of the picture (too much on my plate in the evenings already).

I would be more than happy to transfer running the Hoodiepod to @renrutnnej and contribute by consulting if needed.

@Charlotteis I think it would be easy to deliver something every week and since the panel is so big not everybody has to be part of the podcast every week. Publishing the podcast continuously every week on the same day also really really is one major requirement to make the podcast as popular as possible and reach the most people. A podcast that is posted infrequently has a hard time to grow an audience.

Updated Topics List

Segments

The above topics could be split up into podcast segments like:

Or something along those lines. @renrutnnej do you have any thoughts on the topics list and segments? Or anybody else? Hoodie editorial team?

:headphones:

garrensmith commented 8 years ago

Sorry just to clarify my position. I don't want to run or host it. But I'm happy to get involved from a Pouchdb and CouchDB perspective.

kahlil commented 8 years ago

@garrensmith all good.

So this issue is literally moving at a glacial pace .

I think we have a bunch of passionate podcast heads in here. Should we have a Skype meeting at some point to move this along?

Who is in?

gr2m commented 8 years ago

I’m in in any way I can help :)

I thought one nice addition would be to invite the person people from the "meet the hoodies" series, to give them a bit more time to tell their story in addition to the blog post.

Another fun thing we could do is to ask the ultimate question: "Hoodie – what are you?" and see how answers evolve :D

gr2m commented 7 years ago

still would love to see it happen, but unless someones champions it, I don’t see how.

Closing due to inactivity, but happy to reopen if someone wants to take the lead :)
