2 years ago It is not reasonable to consider they are Sybil attackers just because they have transactions with a hot wallet and similar behaviors. Among all transactions, there are always transactions of similar behaviors, and since Binance hot wallet is popular, there are always such kind transactions. The only way to prove that they are Sybil attackers is to find out whether these transactions have other similar characteristics.

I agree, being funded by Binance alone is not enough and I already threw away addresses from the data that didn't match the behaviour pattern I posted. But all these addresses are funded from Binance, have almost identical set of transactions on Polygon, including almost identical Hop transfers, and then no connections to other addresses and no recent activity. Looks kind of obvious to me.

2 years ago @rotate-eth I don't think addresses using a hot wallet or exchange as a source/collection of funds can simply be considered a Sybil based on behavioral patterns, unless they do the same thing (eg using a contract) for a short period of time. I researched some addresses related to hot wallets and most of them have similar behavior. It's very easy to define similar behavior and then filter more than 20 candidates, but some real users may follow the same HOP usage guidelines mentioned in https://github.com/hop-protocol/hop-airdrop/issues/207#issuecomment-1125576054 and they will appear in your list. I think we shouldn't take the risk of hurting real users.

Reasoning
Combining the team's data with the Hop subgraph I produced a "Hop behaviour signature" for every eligible address, then grouped the data by this signature and looked for unusual sequences of Hop transfers.
I noticed a strange group with the signature
Px,Px,Px,xP,xP,xPi.e. sending from Polygon to xDai three times and then back three times.I then loaded the on-chain connections (Polygon) for all addresses with that signature and plotted a network graph. I found that most of them are funded directly by the Binance MATIC hot wallet (Nansen label) and are not connected to any other addresses.
I filtered the list to only addresses matching both the behaviour signature and funded directly by Binance on Polygon, then looked in more detail at the Hop transfer amounts.
All the addresses listed in this issue fit one of two patterns:
