Began with crashing upon opening 2D Orthogonal view #558

Open rrdurdin opened 4 years ago

rrdurdin commented 4 years ago

Horos kept crashing when I converted from 3D viewer to 2D orthogonal view, so I downloaded the 4.0.0 RC4 version. This version's measuring tool would not work correctly (it was not measuring on exact click points and was not even making lines), and the point placements were off diagonally from the point of clicking. So I shut down my computer and let it rest hoping for a better result later. I opened again, and still the same result, so I redownloaded the 3.3.6 and the 3.3.5. I now have a pop-up requesting that I delete the SQL index and neither option will work. No matter which version I download, I cannot upload files or even get the software to cooperate.

@rrdurdin To get back to something that runs, I suggest making sure Horos is not running and then either removing (if you okay with losing image data) or renaming the "Horos Data" folder under your Documents folder. Then restart Horos 3.3.6 and let it recreate the folder. If you need the images, you can re-import them from the "DATABASE.noindex" folder under the renamed folder.

The issues for 4.0.0RC4 will need to be investigated. Would you be able to provide more details: your macOS version (e.g., 10.15.4) and type of mac (from Apple->About This Mac->Overview)?

I have decided to go with the 4.0.0 RC4 version. And to try to fix the problem with it, I have restarted, shut down, uninstalled/reinstalled this version about 3 times thus far. I also have been using Horos since September of 2019, and this is the only problem other than the last update in the fall that was resolved with a setting issue.

Mac software Catalina 10.15.4

MacBook Pro 2019 Core i5

Horos 4.0.0 RC4

Problem The measuring and point placement tools work in all views EXCEPT 3D views. For instance, the measuring tool does not show the measurement line and is off when clicking. The point placement is off as well. Both about 45° NE from the click point if this were a map. My research uses point placement and measuring in 3D views to take measurements in 2D orthogonal view.

@rrdurdin Which version of Horos was the crash happening when you switched viewer types - 3.3.5, 3.3.6, and/or 4.0.0RC3?

And if you try 4.0.0RC4 again, there is a setting you might try to temporarily fix the point clicks - see https://github.com/horosproject/horos/issues/533#issuecomment-589475808.

The crash was happening on 3.3.6.

I tried the low res setting and nothing changed. I have a video to send to explain what is going on, but it makes the email too large to send.
