hey robrobinbin....the same thing happens with thunar... its funny cause i was just about to post the same thing :)
Update : Ok....maybe its a thunar problem rather than an icon problem...because i installed nautilus....and it worked perfectly on that...
It's happening the same here on Fedora 24 Cinnamon. Perhaps a way to fix by configuring something on Nemo or possibly is a theme bug?
same problem on ubuntu 16.04 when using nemo
Nemo and Thunar doesn't support symbolic icons on sidebar, it's an upstream issue, not an Arc's one
Any suggestions about what to do though? There is nothing at all I can do to make light icons display there?

Fill a bug report to Nemo and Thunar developers, hopefully they will add symbolic icons support to their file managers
@Lokesh-Krishna @feskyde I figured out something. I switched to Papirus icon theme and it fixed my problem. Papirus contains both light and dark theme. You need to select light theme of course. Hope it works for you.
@sudoyang I too am using the Papirus theme only and I know that it does this right. I however like the folder icons from Arc more but making Arc inherit Papirus results in the sidebar having dark icons while making Papirus inherit Arc is the same as not doing so. @feskyde If Papirus is able to render light icons then isn't it something that we can do to this theme as well to make it possible? If not then I'll file an issue for Nemo.
@feskyde If Papirus is able to render light icons
Papirus is not rendering anything, if you select the dark variant it will show dark icons as Arc, you are just forcing light icons using the light variant.

A light variant for the non-symbolic icons should be created, like Papirus Light variant.
Would it be okay to file a request for a Light variant then? Because that happening sounds a lot more likely and feasible to me than Nemo fixing this.
