Final prep for v1.0.0 #21

Run a delinter to ensure bugs and issues are caught. [DONE]
Clean up all TODOs. [DONE]
Update docstrings in all files: Add argument and return types, and use cases. [DONE]
Personally reread every line of code. [DONE]
Run the full test suite after all modifications have been made. [DONE]
Ensure the tutorial code runs from start to end. [DONE]

Spent some time reading the code, which led to some major refactoring. See 74d3dec012c17c814c4dff22783c8a365344ccb6 and 83bdd8126095fc74801d26b2e88d159af8479c9d.

The checklist is complete. Went back over everything and it looks copacetic. Time for a release.
