These apps require the HBBTV apps which has been part of Sony TV. This may have changed. If you post logcat while trying to start the app and post them here, I can find out what's going on.
Can you please tell me how to create the logcat and send it to you? Unfortunately, I'm a bloody beginner.
Here is the logcat. Can you help me? Logcat.docx
I don't see anything wrong with any of it this. It seems to be launching successfully. Having said that, it could be that the API has changed on the AF9, and unfortunately I've no way of testing it. It definitely seems to support the HBBTV though so in theory it should be possible to do this.
Can you confirm that the TV actually has way of launching BBC iPlayer (that is, outside of this app)? Through YouView or something? If so, can you run logcat again while launching it, and then upload the logs to pastebin?
I found out the following: If I make a factory reset on my Af9 and then select "United Kingdom" as the region in the preferences, the iPlayer app will run.
If I again make a factory reset and set as a region "Germany", the app does not run. What can this be? Are there any requirements for the app in different countries? It would be nice for me if I could select Germany in the basic settings and run the app.
BBC iPlayer is a UK only service. It does not run outside of the UK. You may try VPN or something, but they're not guaranteed to work as the BBC actively blocks VPN IPs.
I am aware of that. But this is about the fact that the app does not start, if Germany is set as a region. Even if the VPN is activated. If United Kingdom is set as the region, the app launches and I need to enable the VPN to get content. With VPN enabled, I can easily retrieve content, if United Kingdom is set as a region because the app then launches. Of this then the fact that the VPN still has to be activated is to be distinguished...
So I suspect that changing the region settings changes something that will not let the iPlayer app start. So the issue is not solved.
Too bad that you have closed the problem. The problem has nothing to do with VPN, but rather with the fact that the region setting Germany aborts the launch of the iPlayer app with the indication that there was a problem. The note will not appear until about 1 minute after the app attempts to start. It does not matter whether VPN is started or not. Conversely, the iPlayer app starts easily when the United Kingdom region setting is selected. Regardless of whether VPN is started or not.
What note appears when you launch it with region set to Germany? Regardless, I am not able to see any issue relating to this when looking at your logs, so I'm not really sure what I can do anyway.
Hi, excuse me, if I'm doing something wrong, I'm new here. I have a Sony AF9 TV that I operate outside of the UK. I want to see the BBC and have therefore installed your BBC iplayer.apk v2.2.0 today. The installation went smoothly, but the app does not start. Do I have to install or consider something else? Please excuse me again if I ask in the wrong place, I have not found another way. I would be very grateful for your help.
Many greetings
