chore: refactored screenshots and added badges to README.md #714

refactored the screenshots: they're stored in the repo in the .github dir and are shown from pure Markdown, not HTML
them being rendered from HTML currently makes markdownlint fail in CI
added some more relevant badges to the top of README.md
