natural=tree not rendered #202

Deforestation is a common problem in many HOT countries. It would therefore be good to render natural=tree, so that could be used to map trees, for protection and/or to follow progress in tree cutting/planting.

my humble opinion is :-1: individual trees are not important information for humanitarian mapping imho. Sounds like a job for a "conservation" map style ;)

westis commented 10 years ago

Yeah, depends on the definition of humanitarian, I guess. Environmental conservation is humanitarian in the sense that it affects people's future, in many cases the very near future. That is, where trees are used for firewood and building houses, while causing deforestation and thus less rainfall and more wind, which leads to less opportunities for food production, keeping livestock and a greater risk for landslides, floods etc. It's certainly about human development :)

I definitely agree that dev/humanitarian and environment are closely linked, but I don't think that environment information is at tree level, and I think it's more on area/forest level that info is. As said by @danstowell individual trees are more of conservation interest.
