natural=desert #224

The natural=desert tag is meant to be used over huge areas so it needs to be rendered very subtly. Right now the color is too prominent, and it also seems to be rendering over top roads and covering up other details at low zooms.

Here is a link to an area where such a desert is mapped in somewhat high detail to the south, and only very roughly to the north.

Are you referring to the standard mapping layout by @gravitystorm, and not the HDM? I'm pretty sure HDM doesn't render deserts. If that's the case, then yes, it's a little ugly and could benefit from a decrease at the opacity at the very least ;)

I suspect that it's supposed to be a report against https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto and yes, the desert rendering is pretty ugly on that style!

The report I filed was supposed to be for the HDM but after looking at it I see it doesn't render on HDM. There might be some confusion and/or differences in rendering over time as I did change the polygons from natural=sand which is what they were tagged as previously, to natural=desert that they are tagged now.

For both the OSM Carto rendering, and the HDM rendering, though, both of these features should be rendered in a fairly subtle way as natural=sand frequently gets used on huge areas of desert (although maybe all of these should be retagged as desert right in the DB and then only render desert transparent and render sand more prominently like it is now).

HDM doesn't render deserts, at least one linked by reporter is not rendered.
