Request for imagery update #100

The imagery is requested is for the piloting project in Maputo and Matola to adopt the participatory mapping methodology at the community level and to build strength in National Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and develop capacity to a Target community in an urban areas for local context in Mozambique

The imagery is to be used in JOSM as the base map when editing/digitizing data. It is therefore used to show the current features exists in that area in order to get accurate features like buildings. Due to low resolution of the imagery, the features are not well displayed hence the building are not clearly identified

The imagery required in of most recently from Dec 2016 or early 2017 in order to capture all the changes as of now situation.

Thanks for opening the issue here on Github @msilikale05.

A quick look at Bing and it looks like is all 2012 imagery in that area. I'm not sure what Mapbox and DG are at the moment, but they seem newer.

@pratikyadav is this something that you have the capacity to provide here?

Since we are working on the 10 cell houses, if its zoomed when digitizing or when the field papers are being created, it is lather less visible. I am not sure if this is something that can be updated, or if imagery can be provided. Thanks

A quick note on imagery sources at the requested locations-

Resolution - Mapbox 50 cm and Bing 30 cm Date of capture - Mapbox 2014-15 and Bing 2012 Imagery aesthetics- Both source are cloud-less and colors are good to identify features as building and road.

Due to low resolution of the imagery, the features are not well displayed hence the building are not clearly identified

Are you expecting better resolution like 10cm; in that case it will be difficult as the best resolution of satellite imagery from DG is currently 30cm. Is there any specific issue in the color of imagery that makes if difficult to identify buildings? I spend a couple of mins to try out current combination of bing and mapbox imagery to map buildings and haven't found any issue.

Is there large scale changes in the region that are not captured in current imagery sources? On a quick inspection; I was able to find only a few construction activities that would get benefited with recent imagery of early 2017. Apollo hunter suggest that there are some scenes in 2016 (from World-view2 and World-view3 with cloud cover less then 10% ) but they will not improve the resolution issue you pointed above.

@msilikale05 @smit1678 I don't see a room to update imagery here based on the specific requirements. Let me know if you have any followup questions.
