Garmin file empty #65

See for example http://export.hotosm.org/en/jobs/6834

Typically every link looks like this: Garmin map (EXPERIMENTAL; compressed) [0.0B]

and when you click on the link to download the file you get this message: The page you were looking for doesn't exist.

You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved.

There seems to be quite a few problems, for example:

Not sure if there is anything I can do about it, do you maybe know a Garmin mkgmap utility expert ? :)

This specific job fails beacuse OSM data is to big for the single garmin map file.

severinmenard commented 10 years ago

Yes, I would say Sébastien Pierrel (cced)

  • sometimes the OSM file is to big to do a simple conversion, it seems to fail with: There is not enough room in a single garmin map for all the input data The .osm file should be split into smaller pieces first.
  • sometimes it fails because there is not enough space for temporary files: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM warning: Insufficient space for shared memory file: /tmp/hsperfdata_hot/3116 Try using the -Djava.io.tmpdir= option to select an alternate temp location.

Not sure if there is anything I can do about it, do you maybe know a Garmin mkgmap utility expert ? :)

are there any new updates, if not ... closing as not-fixed ?

I think this should probably remain open, because we either need a way for the file format to work or it shouldn't be an option in the interface.

garmin.openstreetmap.nl is better anyway with various options + much bigger extent. I would rather put a link to it from any HOT Export job On 14 Aug 2014 02:58, "Kate Chapman" notifications@github.com wrote:

bbbike offers downloads for various formats including Garmin GPS and osm.obf (OSMAnd). It might worth asking them if they would provide their export scripts.

@severinmenard so are you asking for a feature where notes can be put in an export? Rather than fixing the export?

severinmenard commented 9 years ago

Hi,

Please forget what I said previously: Garmin file from HOT Exports includes buildings and not garmin.openstreetmap.nl so the HOT Exports is really interesting, especially for field mapping and interest of detailed maps at close zoom
