Hugo supports two ways to manage multi-language articles.
Directory based:

- content
   |_ english
       |_ about.md
   |_ french
       |_ about.md

and suffix based:

- content
   |_ about.md
   |_ about.fr.md
   |_ about.es.md

The way hugo-book is configured only the latter is supported. Both methods have pros and cons but as well look towards internationalization is this a method that will make sense?

Multi-language is set up to work with the directory based structure, is that correct @russbiggs?
