1.Volunteers
These users are the first responders in times of disaster. In cases of disasters such as earthquakes , hurricanes and other natural disasters, these are the people who are on the ground to help mitigate such situations. They range from those with extensive knowledge on geo mapping tools to those with basic knowledge. Most may be using Field Papers as a source of data to aid their humanitarian work while others may be creating data to update onto Field Papers.
Volunteers carrying out relief work even in a non-crisis environment also fall under this category.
2.GIS Professionals
They work at the intersection of data analysis, programming and cartography. Their primary duties include analyzing spatial data through mapping software and designing digital maps with geographic data and various other data sets.
3.Students
They use Field Papers for their coursework and/or for their assignments. The frequency with which they use Field Papers is dependent on their professor’s teaching style and their personal interest.
They also use Field Papers in their mapping communities and clubs to map their towns or a guide when conducting field surveys. Students also use Field Papers for their school projects.
Interview Process
As all users lived in separate countries from me, we communicated on Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. For others communication was also done via email.
