As part of #90, @tttp brought up the idea of adding less to the widget and creating a more robust API for controlling the widget from a hosting page. This issue is a discussion point for this.

I think this the best way to get started would be for Xavier to expand on his thinking. Did you have some specifics features/design in mind @tttp?
