Hardware search button doesn't open except in search results screen

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. From 'Nearby' tab, search button does nothing (drops down to first venue)
2. From 'Friends' tab, search button does nothing (drops down to first friend)
3. From venue screen, search does nothing
4. From search results page, search drops down the search input box

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected to be able to search from most, if not, all screens. Including the 
Nearby/Friends screen 
(where it is listed in the 'Menu' bar.

Instead it does nothing. Except when you're already searching. ;)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Latest 8/30
Cupcake 1.5
G1 Dev Unit

Please provide any additional information below.

Would really like this in (key to usage sometimes) and would consider a high 
priority
