Selection of nodes when there's multiple nodes onscreen is painfully slow #10

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Create more than a few nodes
2. Select one of them
3. Wait.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The problem is dramatically less visible when running not in development mode 
but on compiled code. However, there is still a lot of room for optimization.
