Pre-workshop survey draft #77

Hi all,

Alan O'Cais @ocaisa last year started a draft of a pre-workshop survey for HPC Carpentry (see https://swcarpentry.slack.com/archives/CEXAZR52T/p1626765264085500, and his draft https://hackmd.io/Ba67_2KdRLO6m_OwXkQeLw?view). This survey is for the learners. This issue is somewhat related to #26 (Proposed interest/feedback surveys -- which are intended for workshop organizers). I am opening this issue to continue that discussion here. Alan started the draft using the pre-survey from the Carpentries. Some questions:

I wonder if this question is good to add:

What brought you to join this HPC Carpentry workshop?

That is, do they have existing task to do? Want to learn new skills? Any pre-existing challenges?

I made a comment on the OS matter in hackMD that I want to save here:

[name=Wirawan] I wonder if anyone would use a Chromebook or a tablet to connect. An artifact from SwC is that they strongly recommend against using less-capable devices to do the workshops, because in many cases they want to install & run the software on that computer. However, with HPC Carpentry, it seems like a less capable device may be ok for working remotely (as long as there is a SSH client or a web browser in the case of Open OnDemand). Can we think of a reason why we want to record the OS?

A much better starting point is here (thanks to @ocaisa & @psteinb): HPC-in-a-day Pre-workshop Survey
