User reported: OTG USB storage seems to not work anymore with Android 9 #12681

A user reports through email:

I have some problems, ive been using this app on my android 7 phone and its working smoothly, i store my roms on a usb otg memory card,, everthing is working fine, but when i upgrade to android 9 same unit, the emulator can no longer find the usb otg device, even though my phone is reading the otg device without a hassle, so i tried it with two different phone, i tried it with flare infinity which is android 6.0 and flare s8 max which is android 9.0, with same version of the latest ppsspp gold the result, both phone can read the usb otg device with ease, i can play my psp games directly on the usb otg on ppsspp gold on the former which is android 6, but the later cannot find or detect the usb otg even though the devise file manager identify the usb otg devise, i think it a compatibility issue on android 9, i hope you can do something about it or fix this problem, im looking forward to play ppsspp gold on my android 9 phone, i attach photos of flare s8 Max android 9, when the unit recognized the usb devece and the ppsspp gold emulator didn't

This bug in USB Storage Access is not only in android 9.0 this issue started in android 6.0 https://www.quora.com/Android-6-Files-on-USB-OTG-drive-not-detected-in-directly-in-apps-like-Google-Music-as-previously-in-Android-5-How-to-get-it-working-like-before

thought i'd give this problem a test and with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019) on Android 9 and PPSSPP v1.9.4, i'm able to browse a usb stick on OTG and play a game on it, i'm using the samsung adapter (GH98-41288A) and a sandisk usb stick, maybe more testing with various devices could be done to try and figure the culprit for this problem

I don't know why the Android file dialog doesn't show your USB, and I don't know if there's anything we can possibly do about it :(
