I marked a few that could use a look from someone besides myself: ❄️
Showtime (Original Mix) & Showtime (Piano Refrain) — I described the difference between these two as below:
note that the high-tempo ending section of Piano Refrain is present, in its original form, at the very end of Original Mix; so references of Piano Refrain have to specifically build off the particular arrangement in Piano Refrain to count [whether of the outro or of any earlier part of the composition]
Showtime Remix — we display samples in the UI now so Showtime (Piano Refrain) can be removed from the reference list; should be done for both the original and vol. 1-4
this track has a piano section, 1:53–2:24, which sounds like Piano Refrain to me. wasnt sure that Original Mix was actually here, in that light, so i ended up listening closer. this track "started out as a chiptune, but due to computer failures, I lost all of my work. I decided to remake it in non-chiptune form", so it may have sounded quite close to Showtime (Original Mix) from the start, but i think it still comes across as a remix of Showtime (Original Mix) starting from 0:30. particularly the "battle transition" (see Original Mix 0:16) and the melody measure about at the start of the main, original motif of this track
Showtime (End Strife Remix) — swap order of Original Mix (should be second) and Piano Refrain (should be first)
can you give me a HAND — move Showtime (Piano Refrain) above RollerCoaster Tycoon Theme since it's the structural foundation for the song, i.e. this track is a Piano Refrain remix which melodically incorporates RC Tycoon, not the other way around; retain Original Mix at bottom of list
Homestuck & Homestuck Anthem — I described the difference between these two as below:
...builds off material that i believe is unique to Homestuck — that is, Homestuck (0:03–0:26, repeated 0:27–0:50) and Homestuck Anthem (1:19–1:35) are the same motif, which originated in Homestuck Anthem; Homestuck (0:51–1:14) is original material, not present in Homestuck Anthem, where the main melody on guitar naturally decays (1:36–1:51)
Elevatorstuck — replace Homestuck Anthem with Homestuck (very similar arrangement and 0:45–1:03 is original to Homestuck)
Cool and New Web Comic — remove Homestuck Anthem reference, move Homestuck to top of reference list
same song structure as Homestuck; also references the harp melody unique to Homestuck. honestly apart from this brutally mashing together the melody in Homestuck, which originates in Homestuck Anthem, this doesnt really have any material directly from Homestuck Anthem
Irrelevance Event Horizon — need someone else to check, I have a hard time picking out refs from this one. ❄️
Lofistuck — replace Homestuck with Homestuck Anthem
normal song name — no idea, feel free to investigate. It's very tricky to catch motifs here, and there are ostensibly a lot. If in doubt, leave as Homestuck Anthem. ❄️
I excluded Garden of Eden from my investigations because the Showtime reference there is fine. It and other "mash-up" tracks (think MeGaDanceVaNia, much of Tee-vee's compositions, etc) will need further checking overall, particularly in spots where they reference other potentially-conflated motifs (Doctor vs Penumbra Phantasm vs SotWW vs SotDD, etc), since it's often just a small "bite" of material. That was outside the scope of my review here.
My full notes are in the #references-project channel, if needed!
