I think this is to do with the nonce html attribute - The nonce attribute enables you to “whitelist” certain inline script and style elements. So they may be blocking all inline styles on the text - hence the style in the head taking precedence.
In Gmail’s non clipped view (#56), there’s a brief stylesheet at the start of the document that goes
This affects not only the UI, but also the email content.
There’s no
!important
declaration, so it doesn’t affect elements withfont-family
inlined, only those that would otherwise inherit the font from a parent.Huge example:
