You should have told in the ug that the default catagory is Miscellaneous

Maybe I, as a user, didn't want to have a category

Thank you for your feedback. However, our program requires a category for expenditures. To ensure a smooth flow of our program, by default we have set it as "Miscellaneous". Therefore it is not a bug, but user preference.
